Bedrooms have a lot to pack, especially when packing your master bedroom. Often, you have heavy furniture to move like bed frames, mattresses, and dressers. Luckily, we have four easy steps for you that’ll make your job much easier. Or you could take the easiest route and hire a professional moving service.
Step 1: Clean Out the Closet
Before you dive into packing everything you wear in your closet and dressers, take our advice and purge first. Make piles to keep and toss things that don’t fit, or you haven’t worn in ages. Fewer clothes mean less packing to do. And as a bonus, you’ll be better organized when you arrive at your new place.
Step 2: Gather Packing Supplies
Packing your master bedroom is much more efficient when you have all the necessary packing supplies. You’ll need:
- Mattress Bag
- Bubble Wrap or Newspaper
- Quilted Pads
- Furniture Pads
- Markers or Labels
- Packing Tape
- Dolly, 4-Wheeler, or Furniture Straps
Don’t forget to learn how to move heavy furniture.
Step 3: Start Small
Now that you have purged and gathered supplies, it’s time to pack. Start small and work your way up to the larger items.
Pack linens. We recommend running your linens through the wash before packing so that they’re fresh and clean when you need them in the new house.
Pack Clothes. Use suitcases and boxes to pack clothing and shoes. Leave clothing items in the dresser drawers as long as it’s not too heavy. Or, use one of these clothes packing hacks.
Pack Bedroom Decor. Pack items in boxes and label them accordingly. You’ll be tempted to stuff as much as you can in each box. Don’t. Keep your loads light, so you don’t have a problem carrying boxes because they’re too heavy.
Step 4: Pack and Protect Bedroom Furniture
Protect bedroom furniture using quilted pads and furniture pads. Completely blanket your large furniture like the dresser, TV stand, desk, and nightstands. Secure the pads in place with Mover’s Wrap. Disassemble any furniture that you can and store nuts, bolts, and screws in a sandwich bag. Cover the disassembled furniture pieces using additional pads or wrap.
Pack the mattress in a Mattress Bag to protect it from rips, dirt, dust, and moisture. Slide it over the mattress, and voila! You’re ready to go.
Prepare the TV for the move. Whether you’re moving across state lines or town, it’s important to properly pack a flatscreen TV.
